I am lost for words after finishing Playing Hurt. It was the first of this genre that I've read . I absolutely loved this book. The writing style of Holly Schindler is brilliant. The story was interesting and you don't know what will happen in the steamy romance of Clint and Chelsea. Each chapter makes you want to keep reading to know what will happen next. This isn't just another summer romance story.
Let's talk characters the two main characters are Clint and Chelsea. Each has suffered an event either physical or psychological that has ended their sport careers.Chelsea was a star basketball player before her accident stopped her. She is now on a road of recovery from the accident. She believes she can never play again and that all changes this summer with Clint.Gabe, her boyfriend, was never meant for her. He is too perfect and was too sweet for someone like Chelsea. I think that was one of the triggers behind the summer romance of Clint and Chelsea. Clint also suffered an accident that affected him psychologically instead of physically . Both Clint and Chelsea use each other to heal from the accidents they suffered and led to the summer romance that occurred
The writing style of Holly Schindler is absolutely amazing. I loved the way she wrote. Chelsea and Clint had a distinctive voice. There wasn't that mash of characters that occurs sometimes when a book is told from multiple people. I love the way she wrote it where you discover everything in the end or soon. She leaves you hanging then rescues you in the end. I loved the way she was descriptive but not very descriptive in her writing. I also loved how each of the chapters names had something to do with sports.
In all Playing Hurt was an excellent book. I would recommend it to everyone. The characters, writing, and story combine together to give you a great book. I think this will be a book read in classrooms in the future. It combines summer romance and sports for a winning combination. Everyone should READ Playing Hurt!
