Some schools have honor codes.Others have handbooks.Themis Academy has the Mockingbirds.
Themis Academy is a quiet boarding school with an exceptional student body that the administration trusts to always behave the honorable way--the Themis Way. So when Alex is date raped during her junior year, she has two options: stay silent and hope someone helps her, or enlist the Mockingbirds--a secret society of students dedicated to righting the wrongs of their fellow peers.
In this honest, page-turning account of a teen girl's struggle to stand up for herself, debut author Daisy Whitney reminds readers that if you love something or someone--especially yourself--you fight for it.
REVIEW:
The Mockingbirds was love at first chapter. I absolutely loved Mockingbirds. I loved the characters, the writing, the plot, the whole darn book. Daisy Whitney did an excellent job in writing it. The book never had a dull moment and I never wanted to put it down. I don't know where to  start so I guess characters is the best place to start.
The main character is Alex. She is an average non- athletic teenage girl. She plays the violin. Lives in a high school dorm with her best friends. But her life is flipped upside down when she is date raped. Everything after that is a bunch of taking the long way to class and avoiding the lunch room.  Alex also goes back and forth in her mind "Was I raped?Did I give consent" . She also has flash backs which don't help either way. Alex isn't one of those whiny MCs that every detest.  She is a strong MC and made the book enjoyable.
Daisy Whitney's writing style gives you everything you are looking for and more. It is excellent and didn't have a dull moment. Also she gave Alex a distinctive voice. Mockingbirds will take you on a roller coaster ride of excitement. I also loved the references to "To Kill a Mockingbird". It made for an excellent story and unique read.
All-in-all Mockingbirds is a perfect read. It gives you a great story  with romance and suspense.  If you are looking for a unique contemporary YA book I would definitely recommend it to you. Its not just your normal rape book. I promise you will absolutely LOVE this book. Go pick up the Mockingbirds!
