Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

REVIEW:

You can ask any of my friends when I began reading this book I hated it.My opinion changed once I reached the 5th chapter and the story started to pick up. I was in a trance, mesmerized by every little detail happening in the story. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down for even a second. When I closed the book I kept thinking to myself " What's going to happen next" or " Is he going to live" or one that came up most often " I hate her why did she do that to Lena".But even better than the story itself was the characters.

The two main characters are Ethan and Lena. The story is told from Ethan's point of view. Ethan is just your regular teen boy who lives in a small southern town. He goes to school with the same people he has known since the playground. Ethan lives with his dad, he never sees , and his family's maid. His dad spends most of his time in his office after the death of Ethan's mom.His life is pretty average until he meets the new girl, Lena. Lena is the niece of the town most creepiest person, Macon Ravenwood, and is also something called a caster. Casters are like witches but at sixteen they either became light or dark. Usually they get to choose put Lena's family is cursed. No one likes Lena and everything goes down hill after the first day of class and she blows up a window. Interested yet?

I couldn't even tell this book was written by two different people. If the cover hadn't said so I would never have known. The writing is very descriptive but not over descriptive. You can get the characters personality through their speech. Each character has a distinct voice Lena and Ethan aren't mushed together in the way they speak. The characters weren't whiny like ones that can be found in YA books often.Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl are both excellent writers.

In conclusion Beautiful Creatures is an AWESOME book. I loved every word uttered from the page. (Like my personification? : ) ) . It combines Paranormal elements with the alluring nature of the deep south. I love the south if you couldn't tell. The book contains all the elements and Paranormal reader would need in a book. Beautiful Creatures keeps you hooked till the very last word and has your eyes watering for more. Overall I give Beautiful Creature a 4/5. Go pick up this book and it will put you in a trance till the end.
